Spiritual Competencies - Message #2
Art and Pop Culture: Impressions and expressions that tell us about the world

What are the spiritual components of music and movies, the impressions, the expressions artists give out that tell us about the world? There is such truth in art, but also such deception … such mistaken, misplaced truth. How can we dissect it and think critically about art and music, to talk about a message or proclaim a message that really an artist doesn’t believe about satire, about innovation, about these kinds of things that are related to artistic expression. How can it be really pulled apart to help us think about our faith and God and how God intersects with the world, about how people typically understand Christian spirituality and how God is using artistic expression as a bridge to them.
