September 24th 2006 Bride and Prejudiced - Message #2 Flirting with Other Lovers |
One of the key components of any relationship is the fight against affection-drift. Whether it’s your spouse or your best friend, your father or your priest, we can all identify with the discipline that is sometimes required to make sure that we stay true to our relationships.
This is no different with church. There are a thousand other “lovers” out there, but only one church. It’s easy to fall in love with other forms of community or family time,or leisure time, all of which are good things. It’s also easy to fall in love with some bad things like disillusionment or complaint etc. But at the end of the day the church in the 21st Century is our church. It is the church that we are making it to be, and when history is written the words that describe the church of today will either elevate or indict our commitment to Christian community.
