What’s wrong with the church? How about what’s right? Mission, vision and branding.
I think much of our discontent with church - whether that’s the local church or the timeless, international Church - has to do with our understanding of what a church is. It stands to reason that if we have unrealistic expectations of church services/community/life that we will experience a let down when those expectations are unmet; however, I think that the reverse is also true. When we understand our identity as an organic community of Christ-followers, and our gatherings as times of innovation and mission, then we can look forward to well-met expectations and satisfaction through our participation in church.

Jesus Christ was the central voice in the creation of a new community. This community lived and operated in stark contrast to the community of its day. Perhaps more than anything else, this community was - and still is! - marked by its inclusion of others into a kingdom of love.
