Affluenza – Message #1

March 18th 2007 Affluenza: Fighting and (excess of waste) with a (surplus of love) Waste Not, Want Not |
You don’t realize how wealthy you are. Honestly. You’re loaded. The average American annually earns 360% more than the average citizen of the world, spending $32/day on things we don’t need (like lipstick, restaurant food, and online gambling), while two billion people survive daily on less than 1/16th of our extravagance.
It seems that our abundance often blinds us to the crippling deficiences of consumerism to truly address our greatest need: love. “All you need is love” (wasn’t it Shakespeare who said that?)
See, we’ve got to start thinking differently about what we have to offer the world. We have resources we can use to help others, but in no way are those resources merely financial. No, we have so much more.
Our series on affluenza is a sober indictment of the excesses and sheer waste in our consumer-oriented society. it’s our response to the money machine of humanity.
